QCQ 3 – Rheingold

Quotation: “ Knowing how to blog, tweet, wiki, search, innovate, program, and/or organize online can lead to political, cultural, and economic power” (Rheingold 111).

Comment: I chose this quote as I feel it acknowledges the importance of the purpose for social media. Being able to share your life and or thoughts on the internet is a free privilege, but if done wrong can come with a price. Cancel Culture or just hatred.  Cancel culture or call-out culture is a modern form of ostracism (exclusion from a society or group) in which someone is thrust out of social or professional circles. This quote expresses the need for knowledge before posting out on the web for the rest of the world to see. This quote uses the word “power”. The word power is symbolic in the sense that when used correctly/appropriately, social media can be a place for growth ( politically, culturall, and economically) for our community. Knowing how to express your thoughts and beliefs properly on social media can translate into a positive change and or positive force of power. Knowing how to communicate with other people via social media is a beneficial skill to have, when immersing yourself into the crazy world of the internet. One of the most powerful positive effects of social media is its ability to provide support and solidarity, but this can only be done if you have the knowledge of how to organize your thoughts into words for the rest of the world to read.

Question: As avid social media users (today’s generation), is it obvious when browsing the internet who lacks knowledge on the topics they are discussing?

DS106 Assignment – Meme 1 (Troll Quote)

Meme 1 (Troll Quotes)

After contemplating what three individual/characters to use for the DS106 meme troll quotes assignment, I decided to use three influential figures that people may see on TV every day. Individual one is displayed as the graphic or image of my meme. If it isn’t obvious, the individual displayed is the man, the myth, the legend, Dr. Phil. For those of you who’ve never watched Dr. Phil, which I don’t know how that’s possible, he provides the most comprehensive forum on mental health issues in the history of television. Once I had decided on Dr Phil representing my meme image, I then need to decide who I would quote that would in some way would resemble something people could imagine Dr. Phil saying. My mind instantly went to another daytime host that provides positivity and help for the community. So I decided to use a quote from the one and only Oprah Winfrey. Oprah like Dr. Phil works to change the lives of others, so I used her quote that states, “where there is no struggle, there is no strength”. After identifying two out of the three individuals I would use, I then needed to decide who would be responsible and take credit for the quote. The obvious choice was yet another inspirational talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres. For my meme troll DS 106 assignment, I chose three individuals who are bright, intelligent, and look to better the community.

Daily Create #tdc3674

DC #tdc3674

When arriving upon Twitter for the daily create it ended up being February 2, 2022. The idea behind the daily create was to represent the Second Day of the Second Month of the 22nd year of the Second Millennium. An obvious theme revolving around the number two. After scrolling through the Daily Create Twitter page and seeing what others had constructed, I decided I was going to make the number two, out of a bunch of number twos. I went on the internet and collected a variety of different looking and different designed images of the number two. I then opened up a Google Doc and began to construct the number two itself out of the images I collected. I just thought why not follow the big theme of representing the number two, by actually creating the number two out of two’s (thats a tongue twister).
